Melampus learned the cause of Iphiclus' condition from two vultures while imprisoned and cured him using therapeutic and purgative methods, which included a concoction made from the rust of the knife involved in the traumatic incident. This act not only secured Pero's hand for his brother but also solidified Melampus' reputation as a healer.

Melampus is also credited with curing the daughters of King '''Proetus''' of '''Argos''', who had been stricken with madness, believed to be a punishment from the gods for their impiety.
